For referring doctors

Refer a patient with the full picture

When a patient needs something you cannot offer locally, the useful thing is a clear answer rather than a plane ticket. We put an Indian specialist’s written opinion in your hands, and we pay you a flat professional fee for the clinical work of getting the case ready — agreed in writing, and never a slice of the patient’s bill.

We respond within four business hours. We are a small team — on weekends, expect a reply within one business day.

What we ask of you

A referral should cost you a few minutes, not an afternoon of paperwork.

The case, with the patient’s consent

A short note on what has been diagnosed, what has been advised locally, and what you would want a second reader to look at. The patient’s reports come to us through a secure link, never through a chat thread.

One call, if the specialist needs it

Sometimes a written summary is enough. Where it is not, we ask for fifteen minutes of your time to clarify the history, and we work around your clinic hours rather than ours.

A way to reach you

So the opinion arrives in your hands and not only the family’s, and so we can send the discharge summary and follow-up plan back to the clinician who is actually continuing the care.

What comes back to you

You handed over a patient’s trust to have this question answered. This is what you get for it.

A written opinion you can file

From an Indian specialist relevant to the condition, written to be read by a clinician: the reasoning, the options, and what would change the recommendation.

Itemized figures, not a package price

Where treatment is an option, the hospital’s own itemized quote, so the family is comparing line items with you rather than working from a lump sum someone quoted on WhatsApp.

A plain answer when travel is not worth it

Sometimes the honest recommendation is to treat at home, or not to operate at all. That is a legitimate outcome of the review, we say so in writing, and you are paid for the work regardless.

The records back, organized

Before the patient flies home: complete records, a discharge bill checked against the quote that was locked, and a follow-up plan you can pick up without chasing anyone.

Paid for the work, in writing

Preparing a case is clinical work. You review a file you did not create, put the history in order, explain it to a frightened family in terms they can use, and take a handover when the patient comes home. We pay a flat professional fee for that work.

The amount is agreed in writing before the case starts. It does not depend on whether the patient travels, buys a consultation, or chooses treatment in India at all — and it does not change if the specialist’s advice is to stay home.

It is not a percentage of anything. It is never added to the patient’s hospital bill, and it is never charged to them on top of their treatment: it comes out of Medtu Care’s own coordination fee.

Flat fee per case Agreed before the work Never a share of the bill

Ask for the terms first

You do not have to send anything to see the numbers. Ask, and we will send the written terms for your specialty and country — including the wording you would need if your council asks you to declare the arrangement.

If you would rather refer without any payment at all, say so. We work on that basis too, and it changes nothing about how the case is handled.

Request the written terms

How a referral runs

Five steps, and you are only really needed for the first and the last.

  1. 1

    You raise it

Message or email us with the specialty and the question the family is actually asking. No forms, no portal account, no cost to you or to them at this stage.

  2. 2

    We agree terms in writing

Before any clinical work starts on our side, you get the fee for the case in writing, along with what the work involves. If you need it declared or approved under your own council’s rules, we will say so in the same document.

  3. 3

    Records and review

The patient’s reports come in through a secure link and are organized into a file a specialist can act on. The specialist reviews them and, where useful, speaks to you directly.

  4. 4

    The opinion goes to you

A written opinion addressed to the referring clinician, plus the itemized options where treatment is on the table. The family decides from there; nothing is booked behind your back.

  5. 5

    Handover, after the trip

If the patient travels, we send you the discharge summary, the audited bill and the follow-up plan. The clinical relationship afterwards is yours, which is where it belongs.

Questions doctors ask us

How does payment work for a referring doctor?
We pay a flat professional fee per case for the clinical work involved: reviewing the records, summarizing the case for the family, and the handover when the patient comes home. The amount is fixed in writing before the case starts. It is not a percentage of anything, and it does not change depending on whether the patient travels, books a consultation, or chooses treatment in India.
Is accepting this payment a problem with my medical council?
That depends on your council’s code, and it is your call to make with your own regulator rather than ours. What we can tell you is how the arrangement is built: a flat fee for professional work actually delivered, agreed in advance and in writing, never a share of a treatment bill and never a reward for sending a patient. If your council requires declaration or approval for this kind of arrangement, tell us and we will provide the written terms you need for that process. If you would rather not be paid at all, we will work with you on that basis too.
Does your fee to me increase what my patient is charged?
No. Your fee comes out of what the patient pays Medtu Care for coordination; it is not added to the patient’s hospital bill and it does not appear on it. The hospital bills the patient directly, on the hospital’s own itemized invoice, at rates locked before travel.
Who is my patient actually dealing with?
Medtu Care is a medical travel facilitator. We are not a hospital, and we do not provide medical care. All medical decisions rest with you and your treating doctors.
Do I have to refer everyone?
No, and we would rather you did not. The review is most useful for the case where a specialist procedure has been advised and the family is weighing whether to travel, or where the local options have run out. Where treatment at home is the sensible answer, the written opinion will say so.
Which specialties do you cover?
Cardiology, urology, orthopedics, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, hepatology and IVF. If your case sits outside those, write to us anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we can help rather than take the case and improvise.
What does it cost you to refer, and what does it cost your patient?
Nothing to you at any stage. Your patient pays only the published Medtu fees, and only if they choose to move forward: a remote consultation, a written second opinion, or full journey coordination. The schedule is on the Fees page and is the same for everyone.

Start with the case, not the paperwork

Send the specialty and the question the family is asking. We will tell you whether a review is worth doing, and what it would return to you.
