Medical treatment in India from Malawi

Malawian nationals are generally eligible for India's e-Medical visa, applied for entirely online, with no embassy queue. Confirm current eligibility and validity terms on the official Indian visa portal before applying; rules change. Companions can apply for linked e-Medical Attendant visas. How payment works

Two separate payments, never mixed. Treatment costs go from you to the hospital directly, on the hospital's own invoice, at rates we lock in writing before you travel. We never hold or route treatment money. Our facilitation fee is published on the Fees page ($50 teleconsult · $150 written second opinion · $1,000 full journey, milestone-gated), each step credited in full to the next. Forex in Malawi takes planning, so talk to your bank early, with the documented file they ask for: an itemized quote, the visa and the invitation letter. A relative abroad can also pay the hospital directly in their own currency, with both payers seeing the same documents. We take no commissions from hospitals. Our fees are paid by you, published upfront, and itemized separately from your hospital bill.

What to prepare

  • A referral or summary letter from your treating doctor in Malawi, if you have one

Will the government pay for my treatment in India?
For a small number of approved cases, public referral abroad has existed: Malawi’s Ministry of Health has historically referred some patients to countries including India. It is limited, though, and Malawi is investing in surgical camps and specialist partnerships at home to reduce those referrals. Check your own position with the Ministry of Health directly. Most families we help are self-funding all or most of the cost, which is when itemized quotes and a published facilitator fee matter most.
How do I pay from Malawi, given the forex situation?
With early planning. Foreign currency in Malawi is scarce at times, and banks prioritize documented needs. Start the conversation with your bank as soon as treatment abroad is a serious option, and bring paperwork they can verify: an itemized hospital quote, the visa and the invitation letter. That is the file we prepare. Many families also have a relative abroad pay the hospital directly in their own currency, and both payers see the same documents. Treatment money always goes from you to the hospital directly; we never hold it.
Malawi is expanding specialist care at home: should I still travel?
Often you should not, and we will say so when that is the answer. Malawi has been building specialist capacity: surgical campaigns at central hospitals and new cancer-care partnerships are reducing the cases that need to go abroad. India still adds something at the complex end, in certain cancers, complex cardiac and neurosurgical cases, transplants, and treatments not yet established at home. The written second opinion answers whether your case is one of them, against your own reports.
