Angioplasty Cost in India: What's Included, What's Not (INR/USD)
What angioplasty costs in India in 2026: wide INR/USD ranges, how stent count and type change the bill, package inclusions and exclusions, quote checks.
Angioplasty quotes confuse patients more than almost any other cardiac price, because the headline number hides two big variables: how many stents you end up needing, and what happens around the stent (imaging, extra hardware, and the diagnostic angiography that may or may not be bundled in). This guide gives wide, honest 2026 ranges and a plain map of what typical packages cover.
We are a facilitator, not a hospital; these are hospital ballparks, not our fees.
We compiled these ranges from hospital-published package rates and from itemized quotes we obtained for real cases; updated July 2026. Your written quote for your case is what matters. These ranges only tell you what is plausible.

The 2026 ballpark ranges
Wide ranges for international self-pay patients at private multispecialty hospitals, converted at roughly ₹86 per US dollar. Domestic patients are often quoted lower. Stent count, stent choice, comorbidities, and length of stay move every figure.
| Scenario | INR (approx.) | USD (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic angiography alone | ₹0.25 – 0.7 lakh | $300 – $800 |
| Single vessel, one drug-eluting stent, tier-2 city | ₹1.5 – 3.5 lakh | $1,700 – $4,100 |
| Single vessel, one drug-eluting stent, metro | ₹1.8 – 4.5 lakh | $2,100 – $5,200 |
| Each additional stent (typical increment) | ₹0.5 – 1.5 lakh | $600 – $1,700 |
| Multi-vessel or complex angioplasty | ₹3.0 – 7+ lakh | $3,500 – $8,100+ |
“Complex” covers things like heavily calcified arteries needing rotablation, bifurcation lesions, or chronic total occlusions. Those procedures run longer and use more hardware. If a quote sits far outside these ranges in either direction, ask why before you ask anything else.
What moves an angioplasty bill
- Stent count. The largest single swing. Your cardiologist often cannot promise a count before seeing the angiogram, so ask how additional stents are priced before the procedure.
- Stent type and brand. India’s drug-price regulator caps the price of coronary stents themselves, which narrowed the old gap between options. Hospitals still stock different brands, and they structure procedure charges differently around them. A good quote names the stent and prices it as its own line.
- Whether angiography is bundled. The diagnostic dye test is sometimes a separate earlier bill, sometimes bundled when angioplasty follows in the same sitting. This alone explains many confusing quote comparisons.
- Imaging and physiology tools. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), OCT, and pressure-wire (FFR) studies improve decision-making in selected cases, and hospitals usually bill them separately.
- Planned or emergency. Emergency angioplasty during a heart attack involves ICU care and urgency premiums that planned procedures avoid. The ranges above describe planned, stable cases.
- City tier and room class. As across our cost guides, tier-2 hospitals often quote below metros for the standard case.
What a typical package includes — and what it usually leaves out
Usually included:
- Cath-lab charges, cardiologist and team fees
- One named stent (confirm type and brand)
- A short stay, commonly about one to three days, with a day or less of monitored/ICU care
- Standard consumables and routine post-procedure checks
Usually excluded (confirm each in writing):
- Additional stents and balloons beyond the first
- IVUS/OCT imaging and FFR pressure-wire studies
- Rotablation or other complex-technique hardware
- The diagnostic angiography, if done separately
- ICU days beyond the allowance; kidney-protection admissions
- Comorbidity management (diabetes, kidney impairment)
- Post-discharge medicines, including months of blood-thinner therapy, a recurring cost
- Attendant food and lodging; treatment of complications
The question that comes before the price
For some patterns of coronary disease, the first question is whether to have angioplasty at all. Bypass surgery serves certain multi-vessel and diabetic cases better, and some single-lesion cases are reasonably managed with medicines alone. Cardiologists perform angioplasty; surgeons perform bypass; each profession has a natural lean. A written independent second opinion from a specialist with no stake in the answer ($150, credited toward any further step) is the honest way to settle the question before lakhs change hands. Our cardiology overview explains how we coordinate these decisions.
Why two hospitals quote differently for the same angiogram
Send one angiogram to three hospitals and you may receive three totals that differ by a lakh or more. Before assuming padding, check what each quote describes:
- Different assumptions. One hospital may quote a single stent, another two; one may include IVUS imaging, another may not. The quotes are answering different questions.
- Bundled versus itemized billing. Some hospitals quote an all-in package; others quote a procedure fee with hardware billed separately. An itemized quote looks bigger on paper and is often clearer in practice.
- Different stent brands. All may be capped drug-eluting stents, but hospitals structure their procedure charges around them differently.
- Room category defaults. International quotes sometimes default to a private or deluxe room, which scales other charges with it. Ask what the general-ward or standard-room version of the same package costs.
Compare assumption set against assumption set rather than headline total against headline total. When we obtain quotes for a case, we ask each hospital to price the same clinical scenario, itemized the same way, so the numbers are comparable. That is also why our fee is flat and paid by you: a facilitator paid a percentage by the hospital has no incentive to make quotes comparable at all.
Budgeting beyond the procedure
Add to the package price: accommodation before and after (planned angioplasty involves only a short admission, but international patients usually stay nearby for review before flying), flights for patient and attendant, and the quiet recurring line of blood-thinner and cardiac medicines for months after discharge. Ask for the discharge prescription with approximate monthly costs. A contingency reserve of roughly 15–25% over the package covers extra stents or days without mid-procedure stress. The attendant’s guide covers the practical side of the trip itself.
How to sanity-check an angioplasty quote
- Itemized and in writing, with the stent named and priced as its own line.
- Additional-stent price stated in advance. This is the commonest source of bill shock.
- Angiography: in or out? Get a yes or no on paper.
- Imaging tools. If IVUS/OCT/FFR might be used, ask their rates now.
- The what-if rates: extra ICU day, kidney precautions, conversion to surgery.
- Medicine plan after discharge: which blood thinners, for how long, at what monthly cost.
- Range check. Does the total sit within the ranges above for your scenario?
Where our fees fit — separate from everything above
Everything above is hospital cost, paid by you to the hospital. Medtu Care’s fees are flat, published, and paid only by you: $50 (₹4,300) for a remote consultation, $150 (₹12,900) for a written independent second opinion, $1,000 (₹86,000) for full journey coordination. Each is credited in full toward the next step; details on the fees page. INR equivalents are approximate, at about ₹86 per US dollar. The USD figure is the fee. We take no commissions from hospitals, so whether your case ends in one stent, three, or no procedure at all changes nothing for us.
