Heart Bypass (CABG) Cost in India: 2026 Ballpark Ranges (INR/USD)

Honest 2026 ballpark ranges for heart bypass (CABG) surgery in India in INR and USD: what packages cover, what they exclude, and how to read a quote.

Heart Bypass (CABG) Cost in India: 2026 Ballpark Ranges (INR/USD)

Heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass grafting, or CABG) is one of the most common reasons international patients travel to India, and one of the procedures where quotes vary most confusingly. This page gives you wide, honest 2026 ranges and explains what sits inside and outside a typical package, so that when a quote lands in your inbox you can judge whether it is plausible.

We are a facilitator, not a hospital; these are hospital costs, not our fees.

We compiled these ranges from hospital-published package rates and from itemized quotes we obtained for real cases; updated July 2026. Your written quote for your case is what matters. These ranges only tell you what is plausible.

The 2026 ballpark ranges

Figures are wide ranges for international self-pay patients at private multispecialty hospitals, converted at roughly ₹86 per US dollar. Domestic patients are often quoted lower. The total varies with comorbidities, ICU course, and length of stay.

ScenarioINR (approx.)USD (approx.)
Standard CABG, tier-2 city private hospital₹2.5 – 5.5 lakh$2,900 – $6,400
Standard CABG, metro private hospital₹3.5 – 7.5 lakh$4,100 – $8,700
CABG combined with a valve procedure₹5.0 – 10+ lakh$5,800 – $11,600+

Redo (repeat) bypass surgery, poor heart function needing support devices, or significant kidney disease can carry any of these figures past the ranges shown. As with every procedure we write about: a quote far below the range deserves the same scrutiny as one far above it.

What actually moves a CABG quote

The number of grafts matters less than you would expect: hospitals typically price CABG as one procedure whether three or four vessels are grafted. These are the items that move the total.

  • ICU days and ventilator time. CABG packages include a set number of ICU days, and a slow recovery adds days billed at intensive-care rates.
  • Your kidneys, lungs, and blood sugar. Diabetes, kidney impairment, or lung disease mean more monitoring, more specialist input, and sometimes dialysis, often billed outside the package.
  • Blood products. Packages include an allowance, and the hospital bills any transfusion beyond it per unit.
  • Combined procedures. A valve repair or replacement in the same operation is a different (and costlier) package.
  • Heart function. Weaker hearts sometimes need support devices around surgery. Those sit outside the package as a rule, and they are expensive.
  • City tier and room category. As with knee replacement, tier-2 hospitals often quote below metros for the standard case, and several other charges scale with the room category you choose.

What a typical package includes — and what it usually leaves out

Usually included:

  • Surgical team, anesthesia, theatre, and perfusion charges
  • A stated number of ICU days and ward days
  • Routine pre-operative investigations and standard consumables
  • A defined blood-product allowance
  • Basic in-hospital physiotherapy and discharge medicines for a few days

Usually excluded, and worth confirming each one in writing:

  • ICU days beyond the allowance; prolonged ventilation
  • Circulatory support devices, if the heart needs help around surgery
  • Dialysis and management of kidney complications
  • Blood products beyond the included units
  • Diabetes and other comorbidity management
  • Post-discharge medicines and structured cardiac rehabilitation
  • Attendant food and lodging
  • Any treatment of complications or re-admission

For cardiac cases in particular, ICU days and excluded items usually account for the gap between the package price and the discharge bill. That is why the exclusion list matters more than the headline number.

Before you compare prices, confirm the operation

CABG has an alternative in some cases: angioplasty with stents, which costs less, needs no chest incision, and suits some patterns of arterial disease but not others. The right choice depends on your angiogram, your diabetes status, and your overall health. Cardiologists perform angioplasty and surgeons perform bypass, so each side of that decision carries a professional lean. A written independent second opinion from a specialist with no stake in the answer costs $150 and can reframe a decision measured in lakhs. Start with our cardiology overview to see how we handle these cases.

Budgeting beyond the hospital bill

The package price is the biggest number in a bypass journey, but it is not the whole journey. For a realistic total, plan for:

  • Time in India. Beyond the hospital stay itself, patients commonly remain near the hospital for follow-up review and the fitness-to-fly conversation before a long flight home. Your surgeon sets that window for your case; build accommodation plans around it rather than around a return ticket bought in advance.
  • Accommodation for the attendant and the recovery period. Guesthouses and mid-range hotels near major hospitals typically run roughly ₹1,500–5,000 (about $17–58) per night. The attendant’s guide covers this in detail, along with visas, money, and food.
  • Medicines after discharge. Cardiac surgery is followed by months of medication. The monthly cost is modest by international standards but real, so ask for the discharge prescription with approximate monthly costs before you leave.
  • Travel. Flights for the patient and one or two attendants, plus local transport. The e-Medical Attendant visa allows up to two attendants per patient; verify current terms on the official portal before booking.
  • A contingency margin. A sensible cardiac budget keeps a reserve of roughly 15–25% above the package price for excluded items and extra days. If you do not spend it, it comes home with you. If you need it, you are not chasing money in the middle of treatment.

None of these lines belongs in the hospital’s package, and no honest quote pretends they do. How a quote handles them tells you something about whoever sent it.

How to sanity-check a CABG quote

  1. Itemized and in writing. Look for ICU days, ward days, and room category stated on the quote.
  2. Blood allowance. How many units are included, and the per-unit rate beyond them.
  3. The what-if rates. The price of an extra ICU day, a ventilator day, a dialysis session. Ask while you are still comparing, not at discharge.
  4. Comorbidity plan. If you are diabetic or have kidney impairment, ask how that is billed.
  5. What the surgeon proposes. On-pump or off-pump, CABG alone or combined with a valve, and whether the quote matches that plan.
  6. Range check. Does the total sit inside the ranges above? If not, ask why.

Where our fees fit — separate from everything above

The ranges on this page are hospital costs, which you pay directly to the hospital. Medtu Care’s own fees are flat, published, and paid by you, never by a hospital: $50 (₹4,300) for a remote consultation, $150 (₹12,900) for a written independent second opinion, $1,000 (₹86,000) for full journey coordination, each credited in full toward the next step. INR equivalents are approximate, at about ₹86 per US dollar. The USD figure is the fee. Full details on the fees page. Because no hospital pays us, we have no reason to route your bypass to the highest biller.

Questions this article answers

How much does heart bypass surgery cost in India for an international patient?
As a wide 2026 ballpark, international CABG packages commonly fall between roughly ₹2.5 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh (about $2,900–$8,700), with tier-2 cities toward the lower half and metro hospitals toward the upper half. Combined procedures, redo surgery, or serious comorbidities push costs higher. Only a written, itemized quote for your case is a real price.
Does the number of grafts change the price of CABG?
Less than most people expect. Most packages quote CABG as one procedure whether three or four grafts are done. The bigger cost drivers are ICU days, ventilator time, blood products, kidney function, and whether a valve procedure is combined with the bypass.
What does a CABG package usually include?
Typically the surgical team and theatre charges, a stated number of ICU days and ward days, routine investigations, standard consumables, and a defined blood-product allowance. Inclusions vary by hospital, so confirm each element in writing before you compare quotes.
What is usually excluded from a CABG package?
Commonly excluded: ICU days beyond the allowance, prolonged ventilation or circulatory support devices, dialysis, blood beyond the included units, management of diabetes or kidney disease, post-discharge medicines and cardiac rehabilitation, attendant lodging, and treatment of complications or re-admission.
Is angioplasty an alternative to bypass surgery?
Sometimes. It depends on which arteries are affected, how severely, and on conditions like diabetes. This is the decision where an independent second opinion earns its fee: cardiologists perform angioplasty and surgeons perform bypass, so an opinion from a doctor with no stake in the choice is worth having before you commit.
