Heart Surgery in India from Iraq: The Journey Budget

Planning cardiac treatment in India from Iraq: the one-ticket routing via Doha, the Arabic-interpreter reality, honest hospital bands, and the trust questions Iraqi patients ask first.

Medtu Care has no commercial affiliation with the hospitals described unless expressly stated, and we take no commissions from any hospital.

Iraqi patients travel to India for cardiac care in large numbers — tens of thousands a year by official counts — and the questions they ask each other in Facebook groups are rarely about medicine first. They are about trust: who is honest, who pays whom, what happens if something changes. This page assembles the journey budget and the trust structure in one place.

The hospital layer

Indian open-heart bands run from roughly ₹4,00,000–4,25,000 on average in tier-2 cities, with metro centres ranging above that for complex cases. What matters more than the band is its shape: an itemized quote with the procedure named, devices by brand, room rate, estimated ICU and ward days, and revision triggers. A single package number is not a quote; it is a guess with letterhead.

The journey, Iraqi specifics first

One ticket via Doha. Qatar Airways resumed Baghdad, Basra and Erbil flights in May 2026; the Doha hub connects onto a Qatar-coded IndiGo leg into Indian cities — one booking, through-checked bags, as far as Indore, Nagpur or the metros. Schedules change often in this corridor; we confirm routings when you enquire.

Arabic interpretation. Arabic interpretation is genuinely available in Indore — through established local agencies and inside some hospitals’ international packages — and for consultations, written summaries matter as much as interpreted conversation: ours come in your language, in writing. Swahili is the corridor where we arrange remote interpreting; Arabic is coverable on the ground.

The visa file. Iraq is not on the e-visa list, so the sticker medical visa runs through the embassy in Baghdad or the consulate in Erbil, anchored by the hospital’s invitation letter — the document our coordination produces after a hospital accepts the case.

The trust questions, answered structurally

The questions Iraqi families ask each other — will the quote change? who profits from my admission? what if we need more days? — all resolve to one structural fact: who pays the advisor. Hospitals pay us nothing. Our fees are published ($50 consult, $150 written opinion, $1,000 full coordination, each credited to the next), and you pay the hospital directly on its own invoice, line by line. When the stay extends, the same itemized discipline applies to the changed plan. When something feels wrong in the bill, the itemized lines are what make the dispute arguable.

What Medtu Care is paid

The published ladder — nothing per-case from hospitals, nothing folded into quotes. The full schedule with crediting and refund rules is on the fees page.
