Medical treatment in India from Mozambique

Maputo connects to India with a single stop, through Addis Ababa most days or through Doha, and India’s medical visa is applied for online. For Mozambican families the flight is rarely the hard part. The hard questions are whether the journey is needed at all, what it will cost, and how the money reaches the hospital. We answer those questions in writing before anyone books a ticket, and coordinate everything carefully when travel is the right call.

You always pay the hospital directly. We never hold treatment money. Our fees are published on the Fees page and appear as a separate line item, never inside a hospital bill.

A journey scene connecting Maputo, Mozambique with treatment in India.

Maputo to India, one stop

Via Addis Ababa most days or Doha several times a week, with travel planned around your admission date.

Who this guide is for

  • A specialist procedure has been advised (cardiac, cancer care, kidney or urology, orthopedics) and you are weighing options beyond Mozambique
  • The family is planning to self-fund treatment abroad and needs itemized costs everyone contributing can read and trust
  • You are comparing India with closer options such as South Africa and want honest numbers for your specific case before deciding
  • You are in the Mozambican diaspora, or of Indian origin in Mozambique, arranging treatment for a relative

How it works, step by step

  1. 1

    Records first

You share your diagnosis and what has been advised. We send a secure link for reports and imaging (nothing sensitive goes through the website form) and organize them into a file a specialist can act on. Where your reports are in Portuguese, we work with you to get the key documents into English before review.

  2. 2

    Teleconsult or written second opinion

Before anyone books a flight, a specialist relevant to your condition reviews your case: a $50 video consultation or a $150 written opinion. Because it is paid by you, it answers only to you. Sometimes the honest answer is that travel is not needed, or that a closer destination serves you better. We will say so plainly.

  3. 3

    Your decision

If treatment in India makes sense, you get itemized quotes from suitable hospitals and a side-by-side comparison for your case. You decide; there is no obligation to continue.

  4. 4

    e-Medical visa

Mozambican nationals can generally apply online for India’s e-Medical visa. Confirm current eligibility and validity terms on the official Indian visa portal, as rules change. We coordinate the hospital invitation letter the application needs and give you a document checklist. Companions can apply for linked e-Medical Attendant visas.

  5. 5

    Travel

There is no nonstop Maputo–India flight, but the one-stop options are solid: Ethiopian Airlines connects Maputo through Addis Ababa most days, and Qatar Airways connects through Doha several times a week. Both hubs have onward flights to Mumbai and Delhi. Our travel arm Tripcuro plans the routing around your admission date, airport pickup, and accommodation near the hospital.

  6. 6

    Treatment

You pay the hospital directly, on the hospital’s own invoice, at the rates locked before you flew. A named coordinator handles the practical side so your family can focus on you.

  7. 7

    Follow-up at home

Before you fly back you get your complete records, a discharge bill audit against the locked quote, and a follow-up plan your doctor in Mozambique can pick up.

Visa reality

Mozambican nationals are generally eligible for India's e-Medical visa, applied for entirely online, with the High Commission of India in Maputo available for paper cases. Confirm current eligibility and validity terms on the official Indian visa portal before applying; rules change. Companions can apply for linked e-Medical Attendant visas. We coordinate the hospital invitation letter your application needs and hand you a checklist. Decisions and timelines belong to the Indian authorities, and we will never pretend to influence them.

Flights reality

No nonstop, but dependable one-stops: Ethiopian Airlines connects Maputo through Addis Ababa most days of the week, and Qatar Airways connects through Doha several times a week. Both hubs fly onward to Mumbai and Delhi. Schedules change, so we confirm current frequency when your dates firm up. Treatment in other Indian cities usually means a short domestic connection. Tripcuro, our sister travel company, handles the bookings, airport pickup and accommodation near your hospital.

How payment works

Two separate payments, never mixed. Treatment costs go from you to the hospital directly, on the hospital's own invoice, at rates we lock in writing before you travel. We never hold or route treatment money. Our facilitation fee is published on the Fees page ($50 teleconsult · $150 written second opinion · $1,000 full journey, milestone-gated), each step credited in full to the next. Getting USD out of Mozambique through the bank takes documentation and lead time. Start early, and use our itemized quote as the paperwork banks ask for. A relative abroad can also pay the hospital directly in their own currency, with both payers seeing the same documents. We take no commissions from hospitals. Our fees are paid by you, published upfront, and itemized separately from your hospital bill.

What to prepare

  • A passport valid well beyond your travel dates (check the current validity requirement when applying)
  • Your most recent medical reports, imaging and prescriptions (originals where possible)
  • A referral or summary letter from your treating doctor in Mozambique, if you have one
  • A realistic funding plan: who is paying, and how the money reaches the hospital directly
  • Your two or three most important questions for the specialist, written down

From Mozambique: FAQs

Do Mozambicans need to visit an embassy for an Indian medical visa?
Generally no. Mozambican nationals are understood to be eligible for India’s e-Medical visa, applied for online before travel. Always confirm current eligibility and validity terms on the official Indian visa portal, as rules change. The High Commission of India in Maputo handles paper cases. Companions can apply for linked e-Medical Attendant visas; we give you a checklist and coordinate the hospital invitation letter your application needs.
How do I fly from Maputo to India?
With one stop. Ethiopian Airlines flies Maputo–Addis Ababa most days of the week, and Qatar Airways flies Maputo–Doha several times a week. From either hub there are onward flights to Mumbai and Delhi. Schedules change, so confirm frequency when booking. Treatment in other Indian cities usually means a short domestic connection. Tripcuro, our travel arm, plans the whole routing around your admission date.
My medical reports are in Portuguese: is that a problem?
No. Specialists in India review records in English, so where your reports are in Portuguese we work with you to get the key documents (discharge summaries, imaging reports, pathology) into English before the review, and we tell you up front which documents matter. Imaging itself (scans, X-rays) needs no translation. Consultations can be arranged with interpretation where needed, and our written documents to you are in clear, simple English.
How do I pay from Mozambique?
Plan the money before you plan the journey. Hospital treatment costs are quoted in USD, and you pay the hospital directly, on its own invoice. We never hold treatment money. Access to foreign currency through Mozambican banks can take documentation and time, so start that conversation early. An itemized hospital quote and visa paperwork are the documents banks typically ask for, and we prepare them properly. Many families also have a relative abroad pay the hospital directly in their own currency, and both payers see the same documents.
Would South Africa be simpler than India for my case?
Sometimes yes, and we will say so when it is. South Africa is closer, and for some procedures the travel logistics are lighter. India’s case is usually cost for comparable specialist care, and depth in areas like complex cardiac, cancer and transplant work. The balance depends on your diagnosis and your budget, which is what the written second opinion and the itemized quotes are for. We only facilitate treatment in India, so if a closer option serves you better, we will tell you and step aside.
