Heart treatment in India for Senegalese patients
When a cardiologist in Dakar raises bypass surgery, a valve procedure or a device, families in Senegal usually reach for the destinations they know: France for those with means or paperwork, Morocco and Tunisia closer by. Those reflexes exist for reasons of language, history and geography, and we will not pretend they are unreasonable. Where India enters the comparison is in complex, specialist-heavy cardiac work — surgery, multi-vessel disease, valve repair — at self-funded prices usually far below Western Europe's. The trade is not free: the journey is long, in French at home and in English in hospital, and the payments route through WAEMU banking rules that want documents. So the decision deserves to be made on paper before anyone books: your actual records reviewed by an independent cardiologist, a quote itemized line by line, and a payment route that clears before you travel. This page sets out that sequence for heart cases from Senegal, including the parts that end with the honest answer that a nearer destination serves you just as well.
We take no commissions from hospitals. Our fees are paid by you, published upfront, and itemized separately from your hospital bill. Full details on the Fees page.
Published fees, same from every country
- Remote consultation (teleconsult) $50
- Written independent second opinion $150
- Full journey coordination $1,000
Every fee is credited in full to the next step: the $50 consultation fee comes off the $150 second opinion, and the $150 second-opinion fee comes off the $1,000 full journey fee. You never pay twice for moving forward.
What a cardiac review needs from Dakar
The evidence a reviewing cardiologist works from travels in files: an ECG, an echocardiogram with its measurements, the coronary angiogram images where one has been performed, and a medicine list with exact doses. Reports written in French are workable — we assemble the file so a specialist can act on it, and we flag what needs translating — but images outrank prose, so ask the cath lab in Senegal for the angiogram on disc or by file transfer rather than resting on the typed summary. Include recent kidney function and blood counts, because they change what a surgical team can plan. From that package, a cardiologist can tell you whether the procedure advised in Dakar falls within accepted practice for your anatomy, what the alternatives are, and what should be discussed with your own doctor. Where the file has a gap that matters, the review names it instead of papering over it — the same honesty we would want reviewing our own family's records.
Comparing destinations on evidence, not on habit
The France-and-Maghreb reflex deserves to be tested against your case rather than accepted or dismissed wholesale, and an independent review is how that happens. A $50 video consultation or a $150 written opinion asks an Indian cardiologist to examine the advice itself: is surgery genuinely indicated or would a stent serve, is the urgency what it seems, what does each route require afterwards. Both are paid by you, so the specialist answers to no hospital's admission targets, and both are credited in full if you travel with us. Sometimes the conclusion is that the advised plan is sound and could proceed in France, Morocco or India with equal clinical justification — at which point the price difference and the journey length become the family's decision, made with documents instead of assumptions. And sometimes the honest finding is that the advised operation is not needed, or that a nearer hospital handles it well; that answer, delivered from Dakar while the money is still yours, is what the review is for.
An itemized quote under WAEMU rules
Cardiac quotes hold more variable parts than most bills: the operation, the number and type of stents or the valve model, ICU days, perfusion, blood products, and discharge medicines. A single-line package buries every one of them, and nobody funding the trip can verify what their money buys. Each quote we obtain is itemized by the hospital, every significant component on its own line, priced in USD and locked in writing before you fly. The payment route needs early attention: transfers from Senegal go through your bank under the WAEMU foreign-exchange rules with supporting documents, and the itemized quote is exactly what your bank will ask to see, so we settle it before travel rather than at the hospital cashier. The euro peg behind the CFA franc holds the arithmetic steady, though transfers still need their lead time. Where a relative in Europe is funding, paying the hospital directly in euros or dollars is often simplest. Treatment money goes from you to the hospital on the hospital's own invoice; our published fee is a separate invoice, never folded into a hospital bill.
One stop from Dakar, planned around the admission date
There is no non-stop Dakar–India service, but the routing is straightforward: Ethiopian Airlines connects Dakar through Addis Ababa and Turkish Airlines through Istanbul, one stop most days of the week, commonly sixteen to twenty-two hours door to door depending on the connection. A cardiac patient needs that journey planned, not endured — an admission date confirmed before tickets are bought, sensible connection times, assistance booked where the condition calls for it — and Tripcuro, our travel arm, handles flights, airport pickup and accommodation near the hospital around that date. Senegalese nationals apply online for the e-Medical visa, and companions can apply for linked e-Medical Attendant visas alongside the patient's application; confirm current terms on the official Indian visa portal when you apply, since rules change. We coordinate the hospital invitation letter the application needs and hand you a checklist. Consultations run in English, and we raise your language needs at the first step so you know exactly what interpretation support exists for your case before anything is committed.

What to prepare
- Your most recent ECG and echocardiogram, plus the angiogram images on disc or by secure transfer where one has been done
- A medicine list with exact doses, blood thinners named specifically, and any allergy or reaction on record
- Reports in French are fine; add the summary letter from your treating cardiologist in Senegal describing what has been advised
- Recent kidney function and blood count results, because they shape what a surgical team can plan
- A funding plan naming every contributor — family in Senegal, relatives in France or the diaspora — and how each payment reaches the hospital
- The questions your family wants settled before any quote lands, agreed together and written down
- A passport with validity running well past your travel dates — confirm the exact requirement when you apply
