Medical treatment in India from Eritrea
Asmara connects to India with a single stop, through Dubai or Istanbul, and India’s medical visa is applied for online. Journeys from Eritrea reward early, patient planning: paperwork takes time, flight options are fewer than from larger hubs, and the funding usually involves family on more than one continent. That is how we work: honest numbers and a realistic timeline in writing first, then careful coordination when travel is the right call.
You always pay the hospital directly. We never hold treatment money. Our fees are published on the Fees page and appear as a separate line item, never inside a hospital bill.
Asmara to India, one stop
Via Dubai or Istanbul, with the routing planned early and with the whole family, home and abroad, seeing the same documents.
Who this guide is for
- A specialist procedure has been advised (cardiac, cancer care, kidney or urology, orthopedics), and you are weighing options beyond Eritrea
- The family is planning to self-fund treatment abroad, often with relatives abroad contributing, and needs itemized costs everyone can read and trust
- You are in the Eritrean diaspora, arranging and often funding treatment for a relative at home
- You want an independent written opinion on an advised treatment before the family commits to travel
How it works, step by step
- 1
Records first
You share your diagnosis and what has been advised. We send a secure link for reports and imaging (nothing sensitive goes through the website form) and organize them into a file a specialist can act on. Records in Tigrinya or Arabic are workable: we help you get the key documents into English before review.
- 2
Teleconsult or written second opinion
Before anyone books a flight, a specialist relevant to your condition reviews your case: a $50 video consultation or a $150 written opinion. Because it is paid by you, it answers only to you. Sometimes the honest answer is that travel is not needed, and we will say so plainly. This step also works well when a relative abroad is arranging things on the family's behalf.
- 3
Your decision
If treatment in India makes sense, you get itemized quotes from suitable hospitals and a side-by-side comparison for your case. You decide; there is no obligation to continue.
- 4
e-Medical visa
Eritrean nationals can generally apply online for India’s e-Medical visa. Confirm current eligibility and validity terms on the official Indian visa portal, as rules change. We coordinate the hospital invitation letter the application needs and give you a document checklist. Alongside the Indian visa, allow time for your own travel paperwork at home, and build the timeline generously.
- 5
Travel
From Asmara, India is typically a one-stop journey: flydubai flies to Dubai year-round and Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, both with onward connections to Indian cities. Flight options from Asmara are fewer than from larger hubs and schedules change, so we plan the routing early. Our travel arm Tripcuro books it around your admission date, with airport pickup and accommodation near the hospital.
- 6
Treatment
You pay the hospital directly, on the hospital’s own invoice, at the rates locked before you flew. A named coordinator handles the practical side so your family can focus on you.
- 7
Follow-up at home
Before you fly back you get your complete records, a discharge bill audit against the locked quote, and a follow-up plan your doctor in Eritrea can pick up.
Visa reality
Eritrean nationals are generally eligible for India's e-Medical visa, applied for entirely online. Confirm current eligibility and validity terms on the official Indian visa portal before applying; rules change. Companions can apply for linked e-Medical Attendant visas. We coordinate the hospital invitation letter your application needs and hand you a checklist; decisions and timelines belong to the authorities on every side, and we will never pretend to influence them. We build the treatment schedule around a realistic departure date.
Flights reality
One stop, planned early: flydubai flies Asmara–Dubai year-round and Turkish Airlines flies to Istanbul, both hubs with onward connections to Mumbai, Delhi and other Indian cities. Asmara has fewer flight options than larger hubs and schedules change, so we confirm routings and current frequency before anything else is booked. Tripcuro, our sister travel company, handles the bookings, airport pickup and accommodation near your hospital.
How payment works
Two separate payments, never mixed. Treatment costs go from you to the hospital directly, on the hospital's own invoice, at rates we lock in writing before you travel. We never hold or route treatment money. Our facilitation fee is published on the Fees page ($50 teleconsult · $150 written second opinion · $1,000 full journey, milestone-gated), each step credited in full to the next. For most Eritrean families the workable route is a relative abroad paying the hospital directly in their own currency. Transfers from within Eritrea take planning under the rules at home, so the funding plan comes first, and patient and payer see the same documents wherever they are. We take no commissions from hospitals. Our fees are paid by you, published upfront, and itemized separately from your hospital bill.
What to prepare
- A passport valid well beyond your travel dates, and generous time for all travel paperwork (Indian and your own)
- Your most recent medical reports, imaging and prescriptions (originals where possible)
- A referral or summary letter from your treating doctor in Eritrea, if you have one
- A realistic funding plan made early: who is paying, and how the money reaches the hospital directly (often a relative abroad is part of the answer)
- Your two or three most important questions for the specialist, written down
